I had some work in Gulf Breeze today and decided to stop by the Pensacola shipyards on the way back to take a look at the Oriskany. 888' starts looking pretty damned big when you are close to it. Its a massive ship and its not completely stripped, like some of the liberty ships you can find here in the Northern Gulf. Super-structure is intact and there are several ledges on the boat that remain intact and should be great for housing fish and bugs alike. There are some obvious openings in the craft already that you can see directly through - they are large too - like you could drive a bus through em. Should make the wreck-divers very happy :)

Can't wait to dive this beast.

Kewl,

I've been planning to drive down to see it.

I was wondering since you're so much closer have you talked to any of the dive operators about it yet?

If they are booking trips, and mostly if they've carved the rules in stone yet about the number of recent off shore dives and depth b4 you can do the "O"?

that is a seriously big boat...

I cant wait, perhaps time to invest in a scooter tho.

Yeah, its big - they are supposed to sink it in June. Probably won't be able to take some deco-diving courses before then, guess I'll just have to settle for the flight deck and superstructure(still ALOT to look at!).
