Goodman handles found on many can lights keep your hands free.

Probably not what you're looking for, or a cheap solution.

Just to elaborate on mer's point, this is a Goodman handle:

They are found almost exclusively on [expensive] canister lights such as http://www.salvodiving.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=106

Can lights are nice because you get a lot of power and a lot of battery but the only thing you have to actually hold is the small and light head of the light.. the battery pack sits on your waist. However, because of their high power, complexity, and big battery packs, they are pricey.

You might like a lantern-grip light such as http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/IK122.html

There are some inexpensive canister-style lights on the market, like the Pro Watt: http://www.divelight.com/single.asp

However, IMO, if you're going to spend more than $100 on a light, it is far and away worth it to spend the extra money and get a quality canister light. You can generally find used 10 watt HID canister lights (popular manufacturers are Halcyon, OMS, Dive Rite, Terkel, Sartek, and Salvo Diving/Barry Miller) on ScubaBoard or TheDecoStop.com for less than $500.

Thanks for the info. I don't know if I want to spend that much on a light at this time. Especially for a hobby that I have a heck of a time finding anyone who's willing to get their feet wet. Maybe I'll try attaching velcro straps on a small light...

ROMADdiver:
Does anyone make a dive light that attaches to the wrist for hands-free diving?

Hi,

This is just an idea I am pursuing, but have not done yet, so take it FWIW.

Found a Pelican headlamp on sale cheap at REI, rated for 300' depth; got some things to try as wrist straps to put it on my hand or wrist instead of head (the headband is removable).

It has a nice contoured, padded base, and it is somewhat adustable in aim (one hinge).

I may get to try this in a couple of weeks, I'll let you know how it works out.

It certainly was cheap (<$20).

Cheers,

Walter
