I've been looking at used gear on eBay and Craigslist. I know that I need to get used equipment serviced unless I have proof that the seller did it. What about if I get individual components and assemble them? How difficult is this to do? Are there some pieces or brands that have different types of connections that may not be compatible? Are there special tools that I'll need? I'm mainly looking at the used complete regulator setups with gauges, trying to figure out if I shouldn't just build my own. If I get new or used components and assemble them myself, do I then have to get the whole thing inspected or serviced? I'm trying to do this inexpensively since I'm a student, but I also want to be safe.
