hmmm... never had that problem

i would put it in chlorinated (tap) water for a couple of hours and then see if it just
rubs off.

you could also try mild (non-abrasive) toothpaste... that seems to cleam masks of
all sorts of things

try vinegar. If you don't want to use too much, mix it with water and let it stay overnight. However if you use like a half and half mix, check on it in fifteen.
Hope that helps.

I use straight vinager to remove hard water deposits on jewelry and gemstones. It's almost instant; if it's a mineral deposit that should work, but be carefull not to soak it too long. I'm not sure what effect it might have on the rest of the mask. Never got that kind of deposit on a mask, although sunsreen can leave a film that the non abraisive toothpaste works well on.

well maybe i should not be very concerned with it because it is not on the lense just on the plastic surrounding. I just want to take care of it because it was expensive. guess i will try regular hand soap first then vinager. but are you guys sure vinager will not hut it?

I've used vinegar to clean film off the lens...not the plastic surrounding the lens.

I've been doing it for a long time... it's not going to hurt it. Give it a try and let us know your results.

(BTW- I learned that from VERY experienced diver who was teaching me the Equipment Specialist Course. I would recommend anyone take it from someone who really knows gear.)

Hope that helps.

I find that normal (not the gel type) toothpaste has enough abrasive power to really clean gunk off the glass, and when used to scrub the silicone it will polish a bit of the yellow discoloration off.

A 50/50 combination of rubbing alcohol and baby shampoo also does a good job of both cleaning and defogging my mask, with no apparent harm to the mask after 5 years of frequent use.

is it a hard or soft film??

because if it is greasy or waxy, it is probably suncream, use a strong detergent..
