looking for advice on equipment, live in new england plan on diving around here and taking trips not sure what to get in terms of suits, not ready for a dry suit yet just got certified last weekend. the water temp in the pond was 56 so figuring on 46 in ocean. We would like to stay warm here but not too warm for trips. should we get 2 suits? any oppions would be helpful.

I dive a Mares Isotherm semi-dry. I have over 150 dives in it and have been diving in Jan, Feb in temps as low as 39 degrees. The range is 65-38 degrees. i do not have a dry suit b/c I don't have the money for a DUI right now. I have been in the water as long as 1:35 and still had dry spots inside the suit. it cost about $500 but is well worthit b/c it is so versitle. Here is the link for the suit http://www.mares.com/catalogo/scheda.asp?idPagina=144&lingua=eng I have last years model but it is the same thing.
Everyone i know that owns one loves it!

You will need 2 suits if you are planing to go diving in some of the warm resorts.
For the water temp you are talking about I would get a 7mm fullsuit with a second layer on top( I like Bare). To be even warmer you can go for the Henderson line (gold core or insta-dry) or a semi dry as mentioned above.

For the trips will depend on the destination, but usually a 3mm fullsuit is great.

The model shown there is not available in the states... at least not yet. And they are probably not going to bring them over, is what I've heard. For some reason their semi-dry was not as popular in the states as overseas. In fact, I snarfed up their remaining stock of last years, and it's really just a color scheme difference: http://scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=Isotherm and for $150 price difference... I don't much care about color!
