Hello everyone! i know this has been stumped in separate posts but if someone is willing to give me a hand it would be great:D
I have 3 choice destinations for vacation trip: Dominican Republic / Jamaica / US. Virgin Islands. If you were to choose one could you rate from 1-10 why. I'm going with my other half who doesn't dive but will snorkel. Also we are planning to stay at all inclusive resorts except sandals. Thanks to all who are willing to help/play:wink:
PS its going to be our first tropical trip besides Florida.

I found the diving to be better in St Thomas than in Jamaica. I also did not like Jamaica too much for stuff to do on land. The country is very dirty.

I hear that there are some very nice all inclusive resorts in the DR, but I have never been there. Also, some people have commented in the past on this board that the diving in the DR is not so good.

If the emphasis is on scuba/snorkeling, I'd go to the Virgin Islands. Realize that all all-inclusives are not equal. You'll get what you pay for.

Hi Dariuszpl,

I'd quicky put Jamaica at the bottom of the list. On balance it has just so-so diving and topside it has lots of litter and crime. Hucksters assail you on the beaches to buy everything from tasteless trinkets to drugs. Ixnay. But, if you do decide to go I have an acquaintance who lives there who can hook you with the best available scuba. Just contact me.

If you're looking for a very nice all-inclusive and an op where non-diving partners can snorkel while you're on scuba, you might enjoy reading my feature location review on the Dominican Republic in the Jun '03 issue of Undercurrent at http://www.undercurrent.org/UCnow/issues2003.shtml. I was back just this March and the information is still accurate except for a change of dive shop ownership.

BTW, that TR can also be found at http://www.awoosh.com/Doc Vikingo's Resource Page/Bayahibe.htm

You mention the USVI's, but don't say which one, i.e., St. Croix, St. Thomas or St. John. Of the three, I'd pick St. John for what you seem to be seeking. Check out Cruz Bay Watersports http://www.divestjohn.com and Low Key Watersports http://www.divelowkey.com

Have fun and Happy New Year.

Regards,

DocVikingo

Have been to Jamaica and all three of the USVI. Haven't been to DR and don't plan to go based on what I have read and heard. Doc is right on target with the foregoing post. if I could go back I would definitely hit St. John. Don't miss going over to the BVI's for the wreck of the Rhone.
