Is changing planes in Mexico City a dumb idea?

I'm going back to socorro next year. On my previous trip I came fro Europe to dfw and then connected down to cabo.

I'm toying with the idea of connecting via Mexico City next time. On the way out, I would take an overnight at an airport hotel but connect straight through on the return journey.

The flight timings/connections look good.... But what's the airport like? Do connections work easily. Flight to cabo would be on a domestic airline. Are they ok? Etc etc

any advice very welcome
