Hello all,

My plans for September have collapsed and I'm thinking of taking 10 days somewhere nice and sunny and go diving. I'll be on my own, so I'd rather not go somewhere where there's absolutely nothing to do out of the water (e.g., I understand this is the case of Bonaire). I went to Cozumel last year and liked it.

All suggestions welcome!

This is NOT the case in Bonaire! There are 2 casinos, shopping, live music in town at Karel's bar and City Cafe, museums, Art Galleries, windsurfing, or just chilling at Sorobon where there is a wonderful sandy beach and restaurants on the beach, sunset cruises, dinner cruises, great restaurants, island exploring, GREAT people to meet from all of the world, Washington Slaagbai Park, kite surfing, landsailing, wake boarding, cave snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, day spas, festivals, walking tours, free rum punch parties with live music! It really urks me when people say there is nothing more to do on Bonaire then just dive!

You forgot tubing in the ocean at Buddy's and horseback riding in and out of the ocean.

The point is - one can find plenty to do if they get off their ***** and take a look see.

Playa del Carmen? It's really a fun town with plenty to do. There are lots of restaurants and I hear there is some nightlife. Personally, after diving, nightlife is dinner and two beers. There are Mayan ruins nearby. There's pretty good diving in the ocean (I recommend Tank Ha) and nearby there are great guided cavern dives in the cenotes (I recommend Yucatek). The ferry to Cozumel leaves from Playa, so you can always head over for a day, or with a ten-day trip, a couple of days. Most of the other places I have gone are pretty quiet and dive-oriented. but Playa was a really good balance.

I second the vote for Cabo; the hurricanes seem to go around it. The water is warm and their are lots of fish to see. The weather will be HOT, and kinda humid, but we're in the water all the time anyway.

Cabo is nice that time of year, but I don't think there is enough diving there for ten days. I would go to La Paz. Most dive ops there only do three tank days and the boat rides are long. We typically left at 8am and returned around 4-5pm. Just in time for dinner and bed. The diving was unbelievable and they say it's even better in Sept./Oct. Plenty of dive sites for ten days.
