I'm curious if these types of boycotts are common...
"In a desperate bid to overturn the moratorium and boost its whaling industry, Japan is extorting six Caribbean nations with offers of aid.
The governments of Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts, St. Lucia and St. Vincent all vote with Japan at annual International Whaling Commission (IWC) meetings to block conservation measures such as the creation of whale sanctuaries in the South Pacific.
Ironically, these same six Caribbean nations are largely dependent on tourism industries that lure travelers to "paradise" with eco-friendly promises of pristine reefs, whale watching and dolphin encounters."

I just thought that I'd share...I took RickG's advice and we are going to Wananavu for a week to get married (and 3 days of diving with a night dive too) and then we'll ship off the family back to the states and stay an extra week at Paradise Taveuni for 5 days of diving. I'm really excited (more so for the vacation and less about the wedding, although we're excited about the wedding, don't get us wrong). Thank you everyone for all of your help and suggestions. I'll be sure to post about how the trip went!
St. Lucia is a great one as for the Sandals, it hits the spot. You can't go wrong with free diving. Sometimes they cut you to 45-50 min on your dive and I don't know about you but being a certified diver with dives under my belt I want to hear that last zing and know that that tank is empty before exiting the water.
Ben to Fiji, the trip was awesome Matana Beach Resort is a underrated resort with style and class all of its own. Its no Sandals but David, Mere, Bob and Reena make you feel more like family not guests. If your looking for a laid back, restful, peaceful, quiet, quaint, I could go on but you get the picture Matana Beach Resort it what your looking for.
you are more than welcome to come to belize and get married here and use our 2 50ft cats for some awesome diving and sailing ..... fully diver friendly!!!
CDNN is the National Enquirer of scuba industry. You cannot believe anything you read there.
Wow. I was searching the forums for possible honeymoon destinations and was literally in the final stages of convincing my fiance to spend waaaay too much money on St. Lucia when I came across this last page of posts.
CDNN may be the National Enquirer of the scuba industry, but based on this post dispute, I ran a little google search and in this instance every other reference points to the thing same....along with voting histories before the International Whaling Commission. (And as reported on Wiki which isn't the end-all-be-all news source, but generally quite accurate].
I'm not suggesting people should change their plans and I wouldn't try to pressure folks who just want a great diving holiday, but for me, personally, learning that an island I was planning on visiting supports Japan whaling is anathema to the entire point of my trip: enjoying the peace under water. I won't be visting St. Lucia, Antigua, Barbuda, St. Kitts, St. Vincent....no matter how pretty their beaches or resorts are. If the people of US, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and other conservationist countries boycotted islands that vote in support of whaling, methinks those islands may quickly start running a different calculus. There are plenty of other islands with great diving that won't be personally contributing to the extinction of one of our greatest sea treasures.
[Okay. That got preachy. But, still, horrified to learn I may inadvertently have supported something I'm so opposed to...]
