Which credit card is best for air miles?

To make my dive travel cheaper, I am thinking of getting a credit card purely for the purpose of acquiring air miles. Is there a credit card out there that gives the best in terms of air mile value?

I like the Alaska Airlines Visa Card from Bank of America

I've had Amex Delta and American Visa. Both are decent for miles. But the problem is to your miles now days, there are blackout dates, or you have to pay "double miles" to get a ticket. (all the regular miles seats are sold out, etc).

But have found that Amex Blue is better even yet because it gives you real cash that you can spend on any airline without blackout dates or "double miles" to get a ticket. this way you just buy the ticket and in the long run it's cheaper compared to earning power and having to use double miles.

Also am very pleased with the customer service levels at American Express.

If the card is attached to an airline, make sure that airline services your home airport well. Also make sure they travel to the destinations that you want to go.

I think I saw an ad the other day saying that the Capital One Venture card was the best for accumulating airline miles. I have not confirmed that though.

Some of the AmEx cards are nice because the points are applicable to airlines, hotels, rental cars etc.

As mentioned above, cash back options are something to look into depending how much you use your card.

It really depends on your local airport. I have an Alaska card because I'm in Portland, OR, which is a pretty busy Alaska hub. I also have an American Airlines card through Citi for when I don't want to (or can't) fly Alaska. AA transfers really well to a lot of other airlines too.

capital one has the best air miles one (acccording to their ads). may be worth checking into.

I love my Discover Miles card. Basically you get 1 "air mile" for every dollar you spend. Plus you get double miles on lots of purchases online and for travel and entertainment expenses. Then after you have 10000 miles you can redeem those for a $100 credit towards any future travel purchase. No black out dates to worry about. I think the miles have no expiration date either.
The downside is that Discover is not accepted everywhere and as far as I have seen, nowhere outside of the U.S.

This is how Capital One works, but you can begin redeeming your miles at 2500 (worth $25.00), and you can apply them to past travel within the last 90 days.
