I am looking at doing my IDC (PADI) next year and was considering doing it in Belize , Fiji or somewhere else if anyone has any good suggestions! I did my DM in Sharm, loved it but want to explore somewhere new.
So has anyone dived in Belize or Fiji and either
1) Know of a good CDC or IDC centre?
2) Knows the cost of living in these countrys?
3) And the all important question! What are they like to dive in?!
If you have any suggestions on where to do it they'd be much appreciated
It seems that over the years - most of the folks that have asked your question were looking at Utila (in the Honduras Bay Islands)
or Thailand.
Have not read much on Fiji or Belize as training destinations. Not saying they are not - just saying that I have not read much about them.
Brilliant Thanks! I think neither of them are going to be good places to do my IDC now after a bit of research...Fiji super expensive and Belize has an insane Hurricane season and shocking viz half the year...apparently!.
I have been diving in both locations but not as a professional so I have no guidence in that part of your question. As to the diving I don't think you will find anyone (not a native of Belize) that would consider the diving in Belize superior to Fiji. I think Belize has some very good diving but c'mon, Fiji?? I will return to both multiple times but Fiji is higher on my list of spectacular dive sights (I rank it above the red sea which I also loved). For cheap training I have also heard that Utila is the place. Good luck. Personally I would go to Palau or Indonesia but that's just for the diving.
I would definitely say Fiji if it were based on the diving! I imagine for Fiji the most active training facilities would be on the island of Nadi. I've yet to see much in the way of DM/Instructor Training going on in the smaller islands (none for that matter).
