The Red Sea is the most logical choice...close and so cheap to dive..and not that cold in winter as others have said. There are so many places in the world with superior diving to the Caribbean, and it's not exactly cheap, or incredibly warm during winter. Several mentioned the Maldives which I think is a great choice, and liveaboards aren't that expensive, but if you stay on an island the cost is really high. If you can get to Indonesia, do that...best diving in the world, and the cost of both diving and accommodation is very reasonable. A Bunaken/Lembeh combination is just one of many choices you could do in a couple of weeks time.
