Bell Island Expedition: Diver Dies

Re: Bell Island Mines Expedition 2007

It is with the deepest regrets that I have to announce that Joe Steffen, a friend of many members here and well-known in the diving communities in both the Great Lakes and North Florida, died today while exploring the flooded mine on Bell Island NewFoundland Canada.

The incident is under investigation by the RCMP.

Joe was brought to the surface by fellow team members at approximately 13:05 local time and attempts to revive him at the dive site and the medical facility adjacent to the mine were unsuccessful.

We have lost a great buddy. Joe leaves behind a wife and young son... and many, many friends.

Very sorry to hear that, Steve.

Condolences to his family and friends, and to the other members of your team and enterprise who must be equally shocked.
