Hello,
I'm about to go visit northern Michigan, Traverse City-area, and I want to do some diving while I'm there, and possibly some spearfishing. Just wondering if anybody can tell me the laws and rules for doing it up there- if I can, first of all, as well as any necessary permits or licenses?
Thanks for any help!
-Jason

You can only spear Bowfin "Dogfish", Carp, Gar, and Suckers. But however the DNR will let you take a pole down with you, and fish for any kind other species.

You will have to bend over and buy a non-resident fishing license. not sure on the price, but i dont think its cheap

What lakes and rivers can u spear fish with a spear gun in Michigan

Like higgins lake and the Muskegon river

These are the spearfishing regs:

This is the license info:
http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dnr/license-info_274655_7.pdf

You would need a non-resident 24 hour license ($7) or a non-resident restricted license for the year ($34). Restricted means anything but trout and salmon, both of which are unlawfull to spear so you would be fine. You will also need a "sportcard" which is one dollar and good forever.

Stay clear of the Muskegon river, it is a designated trout stream so you cannot possess any spearing equipment on it, ever.

i was wondering can u spear catfish in michigan? and what r all the other fish u can shoot in michigan?

Soo can i shoot catfish in michigan?
And does any one know if green lake and ducklake are any good for spearfishing?

I think catfish is on the list. If its worth eating its probably off limits, if it tastes like sh!t its probably OK to spear.
