Are you looking for pictures of the ship before it went down? I think I may have a book with a picture. I will look tonight when I get home. Also may have a drawing of the Cedarville as it looks on the bottom.

    Kim,

Are the books available for sale in the St Ignace area? If the drawing you have could be reproduced and mailed I would sincerely appreciate it.

Now an even harder task. Any chance of coming up witha photo of the MV Topdalsfjord that collided with the Cedarville?

Well jbd, I wasn't able to find you a photo of the Topdalsfjord for you, but perhaps these leads will prove useful:

Pier 21 (Canadian) National Historic Site Resource Centre has images of the Topdalsfjord for sale. Info is available at http://www.pier21.ca/Ships_List.293.0.html.

SouthPort Video Productions has a video about the Cedarville's demise that is said to be "packed with rare photographs and paintings". You can contact them to see if they have a photo of the Topdalsfjord. That website is http://www.edmundfitzgerald.com/vide...o=sscedarville.

And finally, maybe Out of the Blue Productions may be able to help you out. They also made a video of the Cedarville. Their website is http://www.greatlakes.net/~divelog/i...ers/Videos.htm and their email address is divelog@greatlakes.net.

Maybe one of these sources will be kind enough to supply you with an image of the Topdalsfjord for free or at minimal cost... it never hurts to ask.

I hope this helps. Good luck on your search.

The Straits of Mackinac Underwater Preserve Association has just printed "Diving the Straits of Mackinac, 2004 Field Guide". It has a substantial collection of photos of the Cedarville along with the USCG report on its sinking and excerpts from other sources. It also includes pictures and info on the other ships in the Preserve area. You can get a copy (100 + pages) ffrom the St. Ignace Chamber of Commerce. They have a website, I don't know the phone number.

Straits Scuba Center in St. Ignace has a field guide they just put out with pictures and details on all the area wrecks - I think it was like $25 to join the "preserve association" to help fund some proper morrings to get a copy....

The Cedarville is an AWESOME wreck...!
    Check out my pics....

    Price and arrangement are correct.

I just got one of those binders today. It was $25.00 /yr to the "Mackinaw Maritime Assn." and the book is free. The money goes to mooring the wrecks and other odds and ends to keep things divable. I believe that Abyss Charters might have them as well for the same arrangement.

We just "buried" a former Cedarville crewman on the wreck yesterday. The man was an oiler on the Cedarville and his son (another diver) sprinkled his ashes on the stern area with a short service it was really touching.

I still prefer the wooden schooners, but the Cedarville is a great shipwreck to dive (if you can squeeze out of that pilothouse once you get into to photograph the radar unit that is).
