Looking for any recent experience. Previous threads are a few years old...

thinking of doing a feb trip there.

Hi mtg,

Providenciales, Grand Turk and Salt Cay all have well-developed scuba infrastructure, North Caicos has nascent scuba infrastructure, and South Caicos can be dived by arrangement.

Where in the TCI do you wish to go?

I am going T&C on Saturday. Staying at Beaches. Anyone dive with thier dive masters?
If so. Who should I see and dive with?
Will anyone there there next week?

We will be heading down on Sat. (the 12th) as well. We have a villa in Turtle Tail. Diving with CA.

Hi Mike,

Perhaps you may want to consider diving with another op as Beaches often gets marginal reviews.

Caicos Adventures http://www.caicosadventures.com does a very good. They'll pick you up at Beaches in their bus. Tell the owner, Fifi, that I sent you.

Provo Turtle Divers http://www.provoturtledivers.com also is very good. Not sure how they'll want to handle pick up.

Have fun.

Thanks Doc. I will give the guys at Beaches a try. If I do not like what I see I will give Fifi a call. The diving at Beaches is inculded when you stay at the resort.
I heard good things about Fifi. Hear is good people.

Kent, It is good to know another New Yorker/Jesery will be out there. If I see a CA boat I will give it a wave.

Doc, What are the not to miss dive sites?

Thats the problem you may have with Beaches. Becuase the dives are "included" they tend to be more apt to not take you out to the best dive sites. You may end up doing some marginal dives in Grace Bay because it is "too rough" to hit Northwest Point or West Caicos. CA on the other hand goes out to West Caicos or French Cay every day rain or shine. If the weather is bad at those sites Fifi shifts over to the boat channel between Northwest Point and West Caicos. If thats not good he'll put you on Southwest Reef. The point is he will go the extra mile to insure you have a good dive day. Beaches won't.

Hi Michael,

Most of "the not to miss dive sites" likely will be missed by the Beaches op, This is because these sites are long boat ride$ from the resort and not suitable for many inexperienced/unconfident divers, and trust me, you'll have them on the boat.

They may do NW Point, which a very nice dive. If they'll go farther, dive around West Caicos & French Cay.

Best of luck.

am really open. my hubby and I are not big into being tourons, we are nature enjoyers, and into the local scene. so we are looking for whatever fits the bill.

Hi mtg,

Useful info. That puts Provo down the list and moves Grand Turk and Salt Cay to the fore. Provo has some good diving, but it's unarguably turon central for the TCI.

Prior to the recent opening of the cruise ship pier in the south of GT, I would have unconditionally recommended it. Now I only recommend it only if you dive with an op that doesn't cater to cruise divers, e.g., Blue Water Divers http://www.grandturkscuba.com rather than Oasis Divers http://www.oasisdivers.com/oasis.html. I'd also recommend staying at a place slightly away from the "action," e.g., Manta House http://www.grandturk-mantahouse.com rather than Osprey Beach http://www.ospreybeachhotel.com/ (where the pool area can get noisy). The Bohio http://www.bohioresort.com is a good choice for both diving and staying if you don't mind being a bit isolated (to the extent that one can be isolated on a tiny island like GT).

If you want more laid back and undeveloped with more nature-oriented activities, check out Salt Cay. IMHO, the diving isn't as good as on GT, but Salt Cay Divers http://www.saltcaydivers.tc does a good job and can arrange dive trips to neighboring South Caicos. South Caicos has some super dive sites and has never had diver pressure on its reefs because it's only ever had one dive resort and that was unevenly oped and closed for good about 4 years ago.

If you want even more laid back and undeveloped, and trust me, girl, we're now talking profound peace and quite, look into North Caicos. There's only one dive op, Beach Cruiser http://www.oceanbeach.tc/diving.htm, and it's very personal service. You've got ~10 choices in digs, some very small, but I can only personally vouch for the Ocean Beach http://www.oceanbeach.tc.

Get you started?
