My wife and I will be moving to Muscat in August for a few years and I just started diving this past summer in Dahab, Egypt. I did get my AOW cert back-to-back (couldn't pass up the great instructor I had and the one-on-one lessons with her since it was off-season!) but really want to work on technique and skills. What can anyone tell me about dive centers in the Muscat area that would be a good resource for beginners? I only have 14 dives in and still want to work on skills a lot. Any input would be great!
Cannot advise on how good the instructors are around Muscat but there is some really good diving in that area, specifically the khors south of Muscat, Fal Island and in particular the Damaniyats.
I am out in a coffee shop right now so do not have access to my log books but check out the Oman Dive Center, and another place called the Blue something. I also dived with the local BSAC club years ago however the people I dived with are no longer there, so I am not sure how active the club is.
For sure you are going to have warmer diving than the fjords
No idea Burhan, I have been thinking of getting hold of a small Zodiac inflatable, but for sure ex-pats own boats in UAE, the paperwork will be the worst nightmare of course.
[Oops, didn't see I was adding to an old thread - maybe there'll be other divers visiting/living in Muscat looking for dive centres there]
I dived with Global Scuba, who are based at the Civil Aviation Club in Muscat. They specialise in trips to the Dimaniyat Islands, just offshore from Muscat, which offers really great diving.
Another good option is Extra Divers, although I haven't dived with them - I've heard many recommendations for them but they were fully booked out when I tried to join one of their Dimaniyat trips.
