I always put a good plug in for Kaimana Divers. Gabe is a good pal and most definitely a hoot to go diving with! And furthermore a very talented and enthusiastic Instructor (I have done AOW, Nitrox, and Rescue with Kaimana so I speak from experience).

Nice, well hopefully looking at 15-20 dives while I'm on exercise so should be good.

Freeness...thanks for the report! As a Kauai girl, I try to get to Oahu 2-4 times per year for a weekend of diving. I've checked out Island Divers and Waikiki Divers before and I really liked the casual, friendly atmosphere at Waikiki Divers but in the end, I have only dove w/Dive Oahu. Your info will really help when I come back and also when the dive shop I work at refers folks to Oahu! Mahalo!

People acting like this on dives really piss me off, especially the 'he never hurts it' crap...you don't really know that! Perhaps the octo blasts out all its ink, gets tired and than a eel finds it 30 seconds after the DM puts it back? You just can't assume that everything will be ok just because you don't see anything negative. If it's ok to handle octopus, why not just feed the fish? Why not just 'harmlessly' brush that alage that grows on the turtles off? Why stop at brushing the algae, just go and ride the turle for a while; it won't hurt it!
Better yet why not just go to the Waikiki Aquiarium where they have a touch pool?
Also this sort of behavior does NOT promote awareness..just tips & picture sales.

Like your momma said: Look with your eyes, not with your hands. It's one thing if you're fishing for food, it's an entirely different thing to harass the marine life as part of your 'show'.

[hijack alert]

Just look at some of the Oahu videos, posted by local diveshops on youtube. One basically shows an instructor feeding an octo. to an eel...no I kid you not....it must be ok though it is posted by a MASTER INSTRUCTOR as is proudly described on the video.

[Hijack continuation]

My personal favorite are the three knuckleheads of Hawaii Kai:
Nobu, captain of the Reena, who (after allowing his snorklebob thingies to get in) hops in and either spears or uses his slurp gun directly below the boat on a heavily trafficked dive site (Koko Craters). I mean he's only the captain of the boat, why would he stay onboard?
The Dive Barge: I love how the Jon F is the captain and the instructor! That leaves the untrained up to DM (depending on the day) crew onboard to hang out with the 5-30 other customers who don't know better and eagerly await their 15 minute dive!
A certain someone (whose name & company I won't mention) who goes in after divers to get a little spearing done...

Bravo for the professionalism! Huzzah for safety!
