the Viper!

well, only got 2 days of diving in this weekend :shakehead: :eyebrow:

Saturday.. Lonnie took the final dives with his dive crew before being voted off the island..

first dive.. a rare entry directly into the Grotto (Blue-Room)..
followed by a long hour-n-a-half cavern-run thru Sharks Cove!

second dive.. Lonnie led a tour thru Fire House..
for starters.. 'showed us this giant 5-inch Tiger Cowrie within a series of lengthy claustrophobic swim-thru's..
fh_cowrie7.jpg

followed by a spotting of a pair of large scrambled eggs..
fh_scrambledeggs.jpg

in the middle of the dive.. found only my second Snow Goddess which was befriending a Tom Smiths Nudi..

first time i'd seen a Tom Smiths..

and finally toward the end of the dive.. Lonnie spied the ferrocious Viper Moray..
those teeth are gnarly!

mahalos to Lonnie, Dave B, Jess, Lauren, and Pedro for a couple great North Shore dives!

Sunday.. dove Route 66 along the Ewa Ledge..
found an empty Tun Shell :D

then got swarmed by thousands of juvi's..
filling the water column from 30-60fsw
almost darkening the sun on a clear water day..
video..

and a still..

thanks for viewing!

Great pics, JJ. Thanks for leading the Grotto dive. That was very awesome. This was only the third time I've seen a Viper Moray (2nd time was weekend before last at Makaha Caverns -- Jess found it) and I didn't have my camera either time, so I have no Viper photos. I'm going to seriously miss diving with all of you guys here in Hawaii. Cheers! Lonnie

I finally got all of my pics uploaded from the last month of diving. Links and a few pics below:

Great pics, JJ. Must be the year for Viper Morays. I saw two in my last month of diving in Hawaii even though I'd only seen one in the previous four years of diving. I'm missing diving already.
