Hi all,

I used to travel to Kauai frequently in my younger years, but unfortunately was not a diver at the time. My kids are old enough, and we are finally making it back to the island where my wife was born and lived for many years. And this time....I am certified OW and EA! WooHoo.

Anyways, I was hoping to gleen some recomendations from all of you for Dive Shops and good locations that I should not miss. I will be able to get a few days of diving in while we are there staying at the Grand Hyatt and then in a home all the Poipu/Koloa area.

What I have seen so for from this forum and internet searches is SeaSport and Kauai Down Under Dive Team.

I appreciate any recommendations!

I don't know DUDT but I can recommend Seasport. I dove with them from the Poipu area. Another often recommended operation is Fathom Five - also in the same area.

The dive nearby not to miss is Sheraton Caverns. Big turtles live in the collapsed lava tubes so you can do some short swim-thru's safely. Fast Lanes is another. If you're newly certified they may/may not take you there yet. They also may dive Nukomoi Point - we did with a mixed group of divers. Everyone liked it. I think Stone House is another good option. Either does escorted shore diving at Koloa Landing if you want to try that - you should, it's a pretty good shallow dive.

I'm originally from Riverside...haven't been back in about 25 years though.

Thanks a lot. That is great advice and reviews of the sites. I was a member at RGC for about 10 years. Riverside is a great community. Should I dare ask if you were a Friar???

You can but I don't know what that is...when I last lived there in the 70's I was 14.

Last time thru was just seeing the old neighborhood. What was devastatingly different was the Dutch Elm disease. At the park where we played ball both 2nd and 3rd base were gone. :depressed:

Ah. Was seeing if you had attended Fenwick (the Friars). Yes Dutch Elm was quite devastating and recent weather over the past several years has weaken very old trees in all areas. Real shame.

I got to know, and still do a lot of the families that grew up there through my time at Riverside Golf Club.

Fortunately, the ice cream shop and small grocer is still there on Burlington! I know I remember that be there for a long time.

I dove with Bubbles Below Last Summer , and am again this summer, great guys, great boats, In summer you can do Niihau, and the Napoli Coast both great advanced dives

Have used Fathom Five on many occasions.

PM Aquamankauai here on SB. He is a terrific local resource. Do a search using his name and you will get some great info.

Great guide and critter finder too.

Fathom Five was super. First class all around.

You'll find that all three primary boat companies here on island are fantastic. While I personally work for Fathom Five - I can assure you that Bubbles Below and SeaSports both run professional operations and care a great deal about their divers. If you have specific questions just send me a PM. I can send you info for anything you may need above or below water. If you'd like to dive with Linda's staff at Bubbles or the crew at Seasports I can can give you a suggestion on DM's, sites etc..

It's a great time of year to be visiting. Let me know however I may help and I'll get back to you quickly. Let's make sure you have a fantastic time here on Kauai.
