I do this for ceremonial reasons:

The last major wreck Oahu got was the Sea Tiger in 1999 (minus a few barges, Flight 29 Down, and not counting the Nashua since it is Navy property).

Why aren't we the dive community asking for more?

Off Honolulu both the Sea Tiger and YO-257 are getting crowded.

I agree, sinking wrecks is rather hard politically though, everything is hard politically in Hawaii. Perhaps some of the leading members of the dive community will stop any petty bickering long enough to get something beneficial together? I know, pipe dreams and chasing unicorns.

I'm always up for a new project, CaptFlyingDutchman has already shared a lot of his research with me to sink a new wreck, if someone wants to help let me know and we'll get you on board!

From the State of Hawaii Department of Aquatic Resources website:
It is hoped that two objectives can be accomplished in the future. The first is to expand existing artificial reef sites. The second would be to add a few more sites around the Main Hawaiian Islands. The limiting factor for both objectives is cost. It’s both expensive and time consuming to conduct the required Environmental Impact Statement. Currently, the State’s artificial reef program does not have funding to accomplish these objectives.
Their USACE permit expired in 2009. My guess is that lethargy has taken hold, and there is no incentive to push forward with artificial reefs.
Too bad. Most marine states and countries love them, even if they are nothing more than ocean dumping. They are still fun to fish and dive.
