Diving on Oahu

Tonight a diver asked a question I couldn't answer - imagine that!!

They have an opportunity to use a time-share on Oahu and asked about the possibility for diving there.

Is there diving on Oahu???

Thanks

No - It is a serious question - we hear lots about Maui and other Islands but would like to give my customers some good advice on what is available on the island where their time-share is. I have been to Oahu many times for business and stopping for gas but have never done any diving there.

What is available and who is the best??

There is no diving ON Oahu, unless you are talking about cliff diving into waterfall pools! That is pretty much the same for all the other Hawaiian Islands.

There is plenty of diving OFF Oahu, and all the other main Hawaiian Islands. If you google or yahoo Oahu scuba diving you may end up with questions that don't sound like a trick question.

If you had just looked at covers of nearly any popular dive magazine you could also have come up with better questions. Sorry for the flame, but you asked for it!

Well, technically, I don’t think there is any diving on Oahu. But I just got off a boat here in Kona that was full of divers that claimed they were from Oahu and pretty good divers. I’ll assume they dove off Oahu.

As to who with I’ll leave to them, I’m sure they’ll show up here pretty soon. Oahu is known for it’s offshore wreck diving, I think they got all of them. And plenty good diving in general I hear, I’d like to go anyway. I’m looking for the video of the family of Frog Fish. In the meantime here.

Just messing with ya up there.

I'm sorry that I offended you but still would like to know someone who lives on the island that can make some comments on dive operators and who I might refer my friends to. If that offends anyone please let me know and I will ask in another way. Why do you think I am asking a trick question. Folks ask if there is diving in Florida all the time and we try to help them out.

I know that I can Google about diving there but it seems that everyone who has a web page says that their operation is the best.

How should I ask this that you will think I am serious and give me a straight answer??

Gee, I was just teasing. Perhaps there is a more relaxed Hawaiian sense of humor? Does this belong in the G.O.D. forum? Anyway, I wasn’t offended; don’t get offended as easily as some I guess.

Yes Mr. Smedley there is diving on Oahu. I'm not fully understanding quite how the Oahu Ops run their show but I met with this guy today, I’d go diving with him on Oahu.

Here is cool photo. Ok, the surface whales isn’t a diving video.

A wreck video

Gee, it goes on and on…maybe there is some truth there is diving there.

Finally found the Frog Family Outing.

Aloha

There is plenty of great diving on Oahu, and now that the North shore is starting to open up there is even more. Lots of good shops around as well as individuals. Check out my signature for two of those. I have lots of buddies that love to dive and are always willing to help somebody out if they need some dive buddies as well.

You can dive from shallow rec (20-30fsw) to deeper wrecks (80-130+fsw) to some nice drifts in ranges from 40-170fsw and depending upon your training there are even a few semi-secret to secret spots beyond the 200fsw range. The right people can get you to those.

The folks that I am asking for are mostly interested in looking at marine life and not wreck or technical diving. They are new to the sport and are looking for a vacation. One of their relatives offered them a time-share in Honolulu.
