Wife is in the process of completing her certification. She has two of her ocean dives completed. She has some disabilities with her back, previous spinal fusion. Anyway she has been diving and learning in Monterey Bay where we live. However surf is up and It's kicking her ass a little too much. We are scheduled to be in Maui in a week, looking to finish her last two dives in clear warm water. Any referrals for shops? DM's?

Where in Maui? Lahaina Divers might be a good option for a beginner in West Maui. They're PADI if it matters - although I think most dive operators on Maui are. There's often a mix of divers on their trips - there was on ours. So they're used to dealing with new divers.

Down near Kihei, Shaka Doug runs a dive bus for escorted shore diving. Welcome to SHAKA DIVERS Web Site! Home of Maui's Coolest Shore Dives!
Maui Dreams Dive Co. does escorted shore dives also.

For boat diving in that area B&B Scuba might be a good choice. They go out to Molokini where it's protected so generally calm.
Ed Robinson's or Mike Severns are other often recommended options. All three have smaller boats since they launch from the boat ramp daily.

Contact Tiny Bubbles Scuba www.tinybubblesscuba.com, Tim runs a non-shop operation and can met you anywhere, anytime and he is VERY patient. Also very resoanable on the price of instruction and he is a multi agency instructor.

She is under PADI and we are staying near Lahaina. I appreciate it very much, might be a little easier doing a shore dive. Not sure she is ready for a descent from a boat. Again thanks very much and a little luck other info will come in. Muddiver I will contact Tim and see if he can help us. Thanks

As a frequent visitor to Maui, I'm particularly fond of Maui Dream in Kihei. Great people, fun and professional. So far I've gone out with Rachel on a scooter dive and Curly on a night dive and they are both terrific! Have a wonderful time!!

We just returned from Maui (our 8th trip there--TS owners :) We stay just north of Lahaina (in North Ka'anapali) and dive the reef right off of our TS (Westin Villas or Old Airport Reef) which is usually quite calm this time of year. You can put in at Kahekili Park (which has showers and close parking)--the reef goes north from there on. I would also recommend giving Extended Horizons a call to finish up your certification. The gals (Victoria and Jenna) we dove with there (we did a boat dive at Lanai) were both terrific--informative, patient and clearly still LOVE to dive--as a matter of fact, we've always had great dive guides/DMs with Ext Horizons. I'm sure they'll tell you where else to dive. Mala Wharf is one of our favorites!
Aloha :)
