Hello,
I'm heading to Hanalei, Kauai on Feb 23-March 6 for some r&r and hopefully some diving. I have 245+ dives, almost all of them in dry suit cold water with a handful being in the Caribbean. I dive for work at home in Canada and am very comfortable in the water.

I'd like to hopefully find a dive shop in Hanalei or nearby where I will be able to rent tanks and weights. I'm bringing all of my own gear.

Most importantly I hope to find a good dive buddy in the area. I understand that Tunnels Beach is an incredible local shore dive. I hear the weather hasn't been great but would still love to get out there if it's feasible.

Please let me know if you can help me out.

Thanks,
Dave

Aloha Dave....

I live on Oahu and have only been to Kauai in the summer. It is my impression (and I could be wrong) that Tunnels is a lot like Sharks Cove here on Oahu. If that is the case it would be tough to dive it if there are any standard North Shore swells. You should check in with the local dive shops in the area to get the most recent report on conditions. We generally can't dive Sharks Cove here until all of the North Swells die down...... later April early May at best.

Aquaman Kauai is a good resource here on Scuba Board. He may chime in soon......

All the best,
G

Thanks All for the info. We arrived late last night and woke up to an incredible view. Friends were right - Kauai really is unbelievably beautiful. I will check out Fathom five/ocean quest. I'll hopefully get some diving in at the south end of the island???

Please let let me know if I'd be able to join up with a local group of divers.

Thanks again,
Dave
