Looking for Local Hosts or Operators on the Big Island

I've just finished my reservations to a conference near Waikiki now it's time to persue what I'm REALLY interested in! Diving!

I arrive Sat. June 12th in the afternoon and the meeting doesn't get intense until Tuesday - So, I'd love to either get together with somebody local [I'd be more than pleased to return the favor should you come to Austin TX - but Lake Travis doesn't measure up to HI water!] or take recomendations for an operator. Sadly, the plan afterwards is conference Tues/Wed/Thur. with a PM flight home immediately.

    Aloha Larry!
    One quick question for you,
Waikiki is the island of Oahu, not the Big Island. Are you sure which island your conference is being held? Or are you planning on diving the Big Island and then flying to Oahu for your conference.

    Big Island

On the Big Island there are lots of places for shore diving. Ask in at the dive shops and they can point them out to you. Assuming you are on the Kona side, there are less places on the Hilo side, but the few that are there are very nice.

If you are going to go out on a boat dive, I highly recommend Kona Honu Divers http://www.konahonudivers.com/. Jacks is also pretty well recommended.

The big advantage to Kona Honu is that they have a big fast boat, that never seems real crowded and you can park your car real close to the boat. They also have some nice gear if you aren't bringing your own.

I really recommend the night dive with the Mantas if you can swing it.

Oops - I must admit - my business travel is like that. Fill out the form on the computer for where to go - say OK when time/place looks good and then look again the day before you leave. I'm heading straight to Waikiki and the cheap place right down the road from the conference hotel [which I won't attempt to name given my track record in this message string!]
Thanks & I shall look forward to meeting any brave ones!
