    olympus 8010 + substrobe ds50 ss50

I have an olympus 8010 i'm trying to get to talk to my DS50 SubStrobe. i have my ds50 set to preflash. the strobe will ignore both the preflash and flash from the 8010. when set to "no preflash", the strobe fires on the preflash.

i have noticed that this olympus camera has a noticable delay between the preflash and flash. is this a fixable problem?

    Thanks.

P.S. my substrobe has lasted through 4 cameras + enclosures. the ds-50 has been the biggest bang for my buck for scuba photography by a long shot.

We've recently recognized a problem with the EV controller responding to the preflash-to-main-flash interval of the newest Olympus cameras. A fix for this has been tested and gone to production in the past month. If you send your EV Controller in we can modify it to be useable with your newer camera.

If you would like to continue using it in the meantime, you should be able to trigger it successfully by switching it to the non-preflash setting and using one of the fractional powers.

Here's updated information on this matter which has been added to our website:

Affecting Olympus Tough (mju) 3000, Tough (mju) 6020 and (mju) Tough 8010 models.

EV Manual Controllers produced before July '10 require an electronics update to be compatible with these cameras' pre-flash intervals. EV Manual Controllers purchased on or after April 1, 2010 are eligible for a complimentary upgrade if returned to Ikelite with proof of purchase. Older working EV Manual Controllers can be updated at a cost of $50.00 plus return freight. Controllers produced after July 1, 2010 require no modification.

All service items must be returned freight pre-paid. No collect or COD shipments will be accepted and no freight reimbursements will be issued.

More information on returning products for service can be found here:

Yes, the EV controller and strobe would still be usable in all other previously compatible installations.
