Allison,Part number 0587.31 was changed to 0203.89 (MSRP $7 each) in our inventory system. This is a nickel plated brass thumbscrew as installed on our compact DSLR and mirrorless ports. With the SL1, we include three back-up nylon thumbscrews, part number 0203.93 (MSRP $3 each).Regards,Jean / Ikelite

I have these nylon screws. How reliable are they? Personally, they scare me.

Allison,

The main purpose of the thumbscrews (brass and nylon) is to make sure a port is down far enough over a housing port hole opening to assure a good seal. Once underwater, the water pressure takes over keeping the lens port pressed firmly against the port base on the housing. The back-up nylon screws should work well as long as they are not over-tightened.
