hey phillybob, what dates are you going with nautilus explorer? i am scheduled to go with shark diver in september but they are not having a submersible cage anymore so i am deciding if i should switch to nautilus. have you been before? what have you heard about the nautilus experience vs shark diver? is going to 40ft a big difference as opposed to 10ft when in a cage? need help deciding! thanks!
Headed to Guadalupe on October 1st for a 5-day trip on the Islander. They have two cages that they drop to 40ft. as well as the surface cages. Can't wait.
Someone is going to Guadalupe as phillybob and will come back as Captain phillyBob Hook
Look forward to see you there if everything goes according to plans.
Well, I made it back, all appendages intact. Man, they have a lot of big sharks there !! Once we arrived, there were always sharks in the water. The last day there were at least five at all times. The Nautilus Explorer had two cages at 40', one at 15' and one on the surface. The surface cage is almost useless, but the others ROCK !! One 40 footer was a two man cage, the other was a four manner. Above is a link to my Vimeo page with my 'raw' Guadelupe video. I would like to 'tweek' it a bit, but....
I guess I got about twenty hours over the three days. I should have brought a computer to monitor how long I spent under. The crew schedules the two deep cages so that everyone gets about four forty-five minute dives a day. The fifteen feet and surface cages can be used at will, as long as there is a space/regulator open. By the last day, some people skip their turn in the deep cages, so I was able to get five or six trips. Water temps were about 68 degrees. I was fine in a 5 mil without a hood.
