Newly certified in So. CA last weekend, and am looking forward to a new obsession! Grew up on the So CA beaches and have been fanatical about the ocean and it's creatures my entire life. (I'm 40) Better late than never I suppose to begin diving. Also a total photography geek so this opens up a whole new world.

See ya around!

Welcome and congrats!

Thank you! Happy to be here!

Welcome to diving and Scubaboard and congratulations!

Have you been to your regional board yet? It's a great place to learn about sites, buddies and events.

If I may make one suggestion it would be to leave the camera topside until you get comfortable with your buoyancy skills and diving in general. The task loading represented by diving with and using a camera will put you at risk and retard the development of fundamental skills. Remember that your OW certification is essentially a learners permit, start slow and simple, you have plenty of time.

Good advice & noted. I'll check out the regional forums. Thanks!

Now get out there and dive and let the real learning and fun begin!!! What part of So.Cal.?
A very active sub-group http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/beach-crabs/ is a great bunch of people to help you get wet. Hope to see you in the water someday soon.

Thanks for the links! :) I'm in Burbank. I did 6 dives over the weekend (including the 4 OW cert dives, I did 2 towards advanced cert as I wanted navigation & deep water) and I'll likely do another one-day trip before June as a tune-up to a trip to Hawaii I'm taking in late June.
