Just back from New Zealand and Australia. Br-rrr was that water cold to a Floridian like me. Give me the warm Gulf waters...the weather wasn't cooperating much. A couple of dives got canceled due to rough seas. I want to go back and spend some overnight time on the floating hotel anchored on the Great Barrier Reef. I had no idea it was so far offshore. I was worried about sharks but no sightings :), I've seen too many sharks at other dive sports around the world and figured here Ol' Whitney was a sure shot - I see to attract the buggers. I've had to push them away with my speargun and that takes all the fun out of diving for me. Lots of other fish, although some of the cays are not as full of fish as I had expected. I had hopes of seeing some sea snakes or sea dragons but no go there either. As for New Zealand, most of the water except around Pahia on North Island isn't worth the dive - water is too rough and visability badly reduced. Saw some sperm and humpback whales though so all was not lost. No spinner dolphins though.
