    Hey all,
I am fairly new to scuba but I fell in love with it after spending ten days in Belize diving the reef. I am preparing for a 9 month seamanship program where I will learn how to do underwater research and how to be a mariner But I am having a problem deciding on some scuba gear. I have a Scubapro BCD but need a reg and also looking at digital cameras. The equipment needs to be durable enough to last 9 months of reef dives but not looking to spend an arm and a leg. As far as cameras go, I have had nikon film SLRs all my life but looking for a good digital camera for above and below the surface. Any help is appreciated and happy holidays.

Welcome to the Scubaboard! The Zeagle Envoy reg has a nice price...there are quite a few to consider. Check out Scuba Toys web site.

Canon set up is really cool at a reasonable price. Dont expect proffesional quality though. With the regs dont go with cheap for cheaps sake. Try to envisage what you'll be doing in a couple of years time. I generally recommend Oceanic FDX10's but you will find other people recommending other things. Its what we all get comfortable with. When you buy, ensure your regs have 2 hp and four lp ports. If not and you seriously get into your diving, I can pretty much assure you that you will have to upgrade!
If your not living on the edge, your taking up too much room

So, the regs I have been looking at thus far are: Aeris A1, XTX100, Legend LX ACD and the Mares V16. Any thoughts on these as far as durability? I will take a look at the Zeagle when I get a little more time.
Doc, I know that going cheap is a bad thing when it comes to regs and I don't mind spending a little extra for a very important piece of equipment. I just don't want to get sold on the most expensive reg just for the sake that it's the most expensive. If that makes any sense.

    Howdy and welcome to SB!

It does help with discussions if you complete your Profile. And it's even more fun when you load an Avatar (personal pic for each post) and a Profile pic. See UserCP to access these if you'd like to...?

If you haven't yet, click Forums above and start going thru the list - looking for those of interest to you, especially your local dive club. Always good to try a Search before starting a new thread, tho and be careful about posting Replies without reading the Stickies for each forum. Click the link in my Sig below to PM me if I can help you around here..

You can test the tanks you breathe or - dive on hope.
    Testing is safer...

Great news for vacation divers who cannot talk themselves into buying a personal CO tank tester!

    >> Rent one for a week or longer here <<
Now let's see more CO readings in your trip reports, ok...??

Welcome to the Board. . . start at the top of the page, there is a navigation bar with "Forums" as the first entry. Click there and scroll down all the different forums you will find special areas for equipment, travel, almost anything you can do underwater. . . Under the photography forum there is a lot of current information.

I've been a Nikon user since the F1, and have 10 lenses, for technical reasons none are a good choice for digital. There are underwater housings for many of the recent Nikon cameras, but the housing expense is more than the camera. One good option is simple point and shoot digital camera. Olympus has a model 350 with u/w housing by Olympus or Ikelight, u/w strobe, etc. This can be easily handled in one hand. . . Housing a full size camera can look like a Hollywood film camera. BIG! Jump into the Photography forum and look around.
