Hello to everyone on The Board, my name is Donnie.
And I am going to be a SCUBA Diver.
I live in Seattle, Washington (7 yrs.). Originally from Plano, TX (29 yrs.); I am in my second week of PADI open water classes here in Seattle (2 much fun).
What enticed me to want to become a certified diver? Going on cruises, signing up for the all the snorkeling and power snorkeling I could find, because, I was not a certified diver.
On almost all of the excursions, I notice these divers putting on wetsuits, weights, ect…. on this same excursion boat I was on; they were going SCUBA diving, I was very envious. When they would returned to the boat….the stories I heard about their dives where incredible. I said to myself…. “I want to do that”.
This year, I took my son, for his 21st B-Day, on an Eastern Caribbean cruise. In Tortola we did a 10 meter 30 min. dive; needless to say “we where hooked”.
That’s all for now.
Until I get my certification and have some stories to tell.
Welcome to scuba, and to ScubaBoard, Dan! Where are you doing your class? If you are doing your dives this weekend, you should have some very good visibility to do them.
If you need an experienced buddy to show you some local sites once you finish your class, shoot me a PM, and I'll be glad to do that for you.

Great news for vacation divers who cannot talk themselves into buying a personal CO tank tester!
>> Rent one for a week or longer here <<
Now let's see more CO readings in your trip reports, ok...??
I did it. Got my open water certification up here in the cold waters of Seattle. A lot of fun and very educational. Signed up for my advanced open water Cert. in a week.
This Friday; the weather was great for my night dive part of my AOW but the currant swept my instructor and I 90’ from our descent line quick. We did an immediate descent to 35’ (bottom), hoping for a weaker current. That didn’t help much, but we did manage to get to the line; 10 minutes later. And as if by magic, the current subsided somewhat. With 5’ to 10’ visibility we encountered three 12” to 15” octopuses and some pretty unusual fish…. Too cool.
Today (Saturday) I did my Peak Buoyancy Dive for my AOW. Didn’t touch the bottom but stayed real close to it. I thought I did pretty well. Our second dive was Underwater Navigation. My buddy and I both hit our 100’ legs of a triangle marks (with 20’ depth changes) with almost perfect accuracy. With having only 10’ to 15’ visibility on this sunny day; I thought we did quite well.
Tomorrow is the Deep Dive (100’+) we’ll see how it goes.
I hope everyone is having a great and safe weekend and I will talk to ya soon.
BTW Doing my classes with Mark Emery, a PADI instructor not affiliated with but at Under Water Sports. Excellent teacher!!!
Completed my AOW dives with great success. Deep dive was 107'. Fed a Wolf-eel on the accent up from the bottom. Naturalist Dive was great, our first, on our own. Had to be the most relaxed and feeling of accomplishment dive of diving so far. Looking forward to more education and diving.
