I am new to scuba and just finished my class and pool segments of the open water certification. My wife and I are heading to Roatan next month where we will finish our certification and hopefully get in a few more dives. We are ataying at Bananarama and Barefoot Cay while in Roatan. I have never been there before. If anyone has been there and knows of some fun things to do please let me know.
Welcome to SB from another Ohioan. I'm from Bridgeport on the eastern side of the state right on I-70. Whereabouts are you from in Ohio. Always looking for dive buds.
I have never been to Roatan but you might find some luck looking in the travel forums in the Central America forum. Heres the link: Central America - ScubaBoard
We are are looking at roatan in July right now. Getting my wife certified next month. I am in ohio as well and also always looking for people to dive with around here. I have another buddy and we go up to gilboa through out the summer as well as some of the places around here.

Thanks. I just looked that place up. Pretty interesting. Looks like a fun place to spend a weekend. I bet it could be fun to dive on some of the wrecks in Lake Erie.
We need to get all of us Ohioan's together and dive. We have several good quarries to dive in and also have a nice lake to our north, not to mention many lakes and rivers!

There will be a few presentations at ScubaFest on Great Lakes wrecks, Most are pretty advanced but will give you motivation to dig deeper in this Hobby.
Sue Smith and Dave Trotter will be talking G/L wrecks.
Looks like about 10 presentations on Great Lakes diving, including one about volunteering to dive @ the Newport Aquarium!

I think I will go check this event out. It will be good to see the stuff and learn a few things. Do they sell equipment there? I still have some pieces I need to buy before my trip.
