Howdy everyone. My name is Sim. I live in New Jersey by way of New York, Oregon, Massachusetts and a stint in the Middle East. Been diving for about 30 years but grew up snorkeling in the Red Sea.
I do not dive in Jersey as it is just too cold and deep. Get in about 30 or 40 dives a year, usually somewhere in the Caribbean or Florida where life is warm and the fishies are pretty.
Christmas vacation, when my 15 yr old is out of school we'll be in Cozumel as I recently had knee surgery and won't be able to engage in our primary passion which is skiing. (wife is certified but afraid of seeing a shark-2 mo. ago in Provo , 13 dives each and every one had up close multiple sharks-great pictures but wife didn't dig it)
Look forward to dropping in and will post some pictures soon.
Thank you so much! Gee, what a friendly welcoming group this is when not preoccupied with sniping at and undercutting each other!
Seriously though, thanks for your response.

Princeton. Central Jersey. Where are you? I don't think it would take too much arm twisting to get me to try. Really the main reason I've never gone is that I've got no one to buddy with or a warm enough suit. Everything else I've got. Is this an invite?
Call up The Scuba Connection (Mountain View Plaza - 856 Route 206 - Hillsborough, NJ 08844 Phone 908-359-1250) make an appointment with Wayne or Jason. They will answer all your questions. What's good for warm water may not be good here in Jersey. If you have no experience with drysuits they have rentals and training available. They will not try and sell you something you will not need. But IMO their training is second to none. I did my training with them and I was completely squared away by the time I was diving off the Jersey boats (Independence II and Gypsy Blood).
New Jersey has so much to offer to divers with real wrecks and fish life, we just have some unique conditions at times.

Sure. I've got a spare 7 mil suit.
Our season is usually from May til October. I DM on a boat out of Atlantic City. We usually hit wrecks between 80-100 fsw. Vis can be around 20-30 feet. Perfect conditions for spear fishing, and lobstering.
Let me know if you're interested.

NJ Diving is a lot better then most people think. I dive on my boat out of Cape May and prefer NJ to most places. We have wrecks everywhere, abundant sea life, and lots of Lobsters. Clarity is better than people think and can be great. Also - is it cold.....Im not sure. I havent noticed since I started diving dry!!!
