At Adventure Scuba, my OW classroom size was three (two students and I). There is a room in the back of the shop that was used for the classroom portion. There was room for one more student but not much more than that to remain comfortable.
At Pan-Aqua for my Nitrox class, chairs were placed in the shop among the merchandise so it was held after the shop closed. The class size was larger but I don't remember the exact student count. I remember the space feeling "tight" for the number of students.
I cannot wait to get certified! Can anyone recommend good scuba diving centers in New York City? I can do either PADI or NAUI programs but from what I understand PADI certifications are ideal for vacationers, so I might go this route instead.
Here’s a list of some diving centers:
Pan Aqua Diving
Empire Divers
Ocean Horizons Scuba
Scuba Network
Adventure Scuba
Stingray Divers
Manhattan Plaza Health Club
I’m still researching and thought I should put this out there for suggestions.
Scuba NY in yonkers is a good facility, the only other shop with an onsite heated pool and that I recommend is seascapes usa located in syosset (Long Island) Ny..
Not sure where you live, but from the cross Bronx expressway, both shops are about the same travelling time...

Thanks Joe..and as to size of facility-----there are 2 rooms we use as classrooms. Both are totally seperate from main sales floor. One is our usual room with space for as many as 8 in a class with a huge white board and a large LCD screen ran by a lap top computer for presentations and the other is our back up room. Both are just outside the pool.

I've never trained with Seascapes USA in Syosset but did meet one of their owners and several of their DMs when they hosted a Project Aware's Beach Clean-Up/ BBQ day out in Montauk in 2010. I found the Seascape USA group very warm, approachable and helpful given I was not familiar with the dive sites on Montauk. One of their DM lead a shore dive and he was very knowledgable about the site. A few of my buddies have trained with Seascapes USA.
I did not mention them in my initial post because OP asked for dive shops in New York City.
