Hey from hawaii

I am almost brand new to diving, and thought this is a good place to get advice. I live right next to a beach with many interesting places to see different sea life and find different shells. If anyone could help me get into the hobby it would be greatly appreciated. I know this is a scuba diving forum, but I am more interested in learning the tips and tricks to free-diving than scuba diving because of time restrictions. Thank you all!
