Hi, I'm going to get certified Open Water at the end of this month, and thought I had better get in a community and try to lessen the learning curve. I have been a snorkeler since I was 10, but never had the opportunity to pursue scuba. I am finally at a point in my life and career where I can indulge my lifelong desire to learn to dive. I'm looking forward to exploring the disciplines available, and hope do some wreck diving eventually.

Do it. I wished I had done it earlier. Now I'm trying to catch up :)

Where are you in NC? There is some world class wreck and shark diving right off the coast there. I was in Morehead City last month diving with sand tigers. Most of the wrecks are too advanced for new divers but it can definitely give you a goal to work towards. They aren't real difficult, they are just deep and can have some current.

I have heard thast the dives are fun out there but that getting back on the boat can be tricky. I'm still looking forward to it. I actually got to start classes sooner than I originally thought I could. I have 1 more classroom day and 2 more pool days, then it's out to the quarry for my first open water.
