Buying trip cancellation insurance from Travel Guard may be useless.
We paid $1086 to insure our trip to PNG. We both got sick and missed
most of dives. We filed a claim with Travel Guard and were told we needed
a dtailed statement from an MD. Since the wilds of PNG provide no
medical services we were turned down. Since we bought the insurance
through DAN we contacted them. They requested copies of the documents
we submitted to Travel Guard. Dan reviewed the info and sent us a check
to cover the cost of the missed dives. We have belonged to DAN since
1991 and will continue to support them.

Most travel insurance is a complete waste of money. If you read the details of exactly what is and what IS NOT covered by the policy you will see that it is covering such a narrow set of circumstances as to be almost impossible to collect on.

Most cancelling travel insurances would stop by that time you start your journey.
