I am new to this forum and was newly open water certified in December. I will be going on a cruise this coming december and am looking for an appropriate dive shop for my experience. I do not want the "cattle boat" treatment. We will be stopping in Cozumel, Cayman, and Belize. My son will be with me and he is certified, but has not been diving for a couple of years. Any help will be appreciated. Another point of concern, I am a very heavy man-360 lbs. I will need to be assured that a vest of adequate size is available.

Welcome to the board!

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

Scott has the best advise on this one. You'll want to check each of those forums for recommendations for shops in each of those locations.

Since you need to be assured of a having a BC of adequate size available in multiple locations, you may want to go a different route. Why not rent some of the gear at your local dive shop and take it with you? I know it's a bit more work lugging gear around, but you could just take the stuff you know you'll have trouble finding. Then just rent your tanks and weights from the local shops on location.

Don't forget to fill out your profile and dive info, so that we can add context to your future posts. Also, once we know where you are geographically, you may find that you'll have a whole bunch of new dive buddies to choose from locally.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

:sunny Hi there! My name is Matt. Welcome to Scuba Board! I came here looking for help with my diving dream. I’ve met a lot of nice divers and many helpful divers too. I think you will get the information you need from SB. I look forward to reading more of your posts about your diving adventures. If you’d like to chat, please PM me.
I am looking forward to seeing you some more around the boards!

Welcome!
Check out the specific locations elsewhere on the board for more information.

I have dove in Cozumel with Dive with Martin - www.cozumel-diving.net/martin/ - email: dwm@cozumel.com.mx
Check with them about your gear ahead of time and also you will want to find out which pier your ship is coming into and if they can meet you if you are not coming into the one they are docked at.

In Grand Cayman I grab a cab over to Sunset House. They have a well stocked shop and you can dive right off their seawall. (saves a lot off the cost of the Cruiseline's dive trips.) Check them out at sunsethouse.com You can call or email ahead and arrange for a guided tour with a DM or go it alone (you and your son) and you will see plenty.

Haven't made it to Belize yet but I'm sure you will get lots of advice.
Again - Welcome!
