    Hello from Arizona!!

    My name is Brian,

I'm a new diver from Phoenix, and have just finished my Adv. OW Cert (still
consider myself a newby though!) I would like to move on to Padi Rescue
Diver, but need to start logging some dives first.

If anybody else in the Phoenix area needs a dive buddy please email me - I
am willing to try any lake in the area (and hopefully make a trip to Rocky Point
in the near future). You can reach me at bk6662@hotmail.com

Look forward to hearing from you guys and gals!
    Brian

Hey Brian another Brian saying hi back. Welcome to the board. Which shop did you go to to get certified? We were down last summer and spent 2 days prowling around the shops in the area. Met a bunch of good people there and had a blast. You valley divers have a lot of choices for your education and shopping needs. We must of just been around at the right time because it seemed every shop we went into had a sale on gear. Bring more green with us when we return so we can spread it around (but with my luck no sales will be happening). You would think that out in the desert one could get by with warm water gear but we found out (as in Vegas) the prefered wetsuit is 7mm. Just doesn't make sense does it!

    Anyway, welcome and enjoy.

    Howdy!

And welcome to SB - the biggest, the best, the fastest growing, and the friendliest!

I'm off in Alantic Beach NC tonight to dive WWII wrecks this weekend, but brought my laptop with me. Scuba is my sport, but SB is my obsession - and I'd hate to be away all weekend if I didn't have to?! We dived the Papoose wreck today, and I even came back with a story I posted in our "Near Misses" forum.

Completing your Profile and seperately - keeping your Dive Info up to date helps in future diving discussions. You can use the Quick Links menu above for this. PM me if I can help you learn your way around; that is - click my username to the upper left, then follow the prompts to send me a "Personal Message."

And - don't rush into your next course. Learn to be a diver, and enjoy it! Book some weekend liveaboards to the Calf Channel Islands. If you're not ready for that, though, then get ready.

And if you're going to be in Houston Oct 16 - for the DEMA show or any other reason, you're even invited to a SB Bar-B-Q dinner! Click here: http://scubaboard.com/t73366-swamper...rent-info.html or PM me for assistance in signing up for it. Dee needs to know by the 6th. I wouldn't miss this for anything!

    don
You can test the tanks you breathe or - dive on hope.
    Testing is safer...

Great news for vacation divers who cannot talk themselves into buying a personal CO tank tester!

    >> Rent one for a week or longer here <<
Now let's see more CO readings in your trip reports, ok...??

    Brian,

I'm a member of the AZScuba club based in Phoenix. We're a group of about 100 local divers not affiliated with any diveshop who meet to dive and talk diving. We also have our own forum here on Scubaboard, it's the first listing under Clubs. We just started meeting the 2nd Thursday of every month at various locations in the Valley. Some of our members dive Pleasant and Saguaro(not me - sold my wetsuit years ago..) weekly as well as take trips to San Diego and San Carlos, MX.

We have a Yahoo group that's more active than our participation in this forum. E-mail Dave, our moderator, his info is on our forum here, if you'd like to join, it's free. Most of the local weekend dive scheduling happens there.

Who do you dive with? I was certified at Scuba Sciences in the early 80's but now I generally go to El Mar or Scuba Specialties for gear/repairs etc. I mostly dive in with my buddy in the Caribbean and am a videographer. I'm currently editing a video from my trip to the Bonaire Dive Festival this past June.

    Steve

P.S. I've not heard much about diving at Rocky Point, I think it's too flat and sandy. Most of the local trips from here to Mexico drive to either San Carlos or Himalaya Bay. We also have information from the R-team(Raytheon) in Tucson posting to our board, they run trips regularly to Mexico or California also that we're invited to join.

It's because all our lakes are fed by cold water runoff from the mountains or the Colorado River. Shocked me the first time too. That's why we go to Mexico or Hawaii - it's very affordable with direct flights from Phx.

You should be here for the two sales we wait for with breathless anticipation, one in December and the best one in early summer. (Scuba Sciences and El Mar for those familiar with Valley diveshops)

    Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

    Congratulations on your latest certification!

Just remember diving is not about getting certification cards as quickly as possible, but learning and then practicing what you learn at each level.

Don't forget to fill out your profile and dive info, so that we can add context to your future posts. Also, once we know where you are geographically from your profile, you may find that you'll have a whole bunch of new dive buddies to choose from locally.

    Dive safe!

    Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

Congratulations Brian on your certification. You are my first posting to the board, I just signed up.

I am also in Arizona, was certified 5'03 and have just completed Rescue Dive Course with Quiesence in Key Largo Fl, excellant training staff.

If you dive in Rocky Point I would recommend Bird Island, over 2000 seals at any given time. Vis about 35-40', some colors. The shores of Rocky point are pretty murky, but for only 4-5 hours away it's worth a try.

Good luck on your advancement, welcome to the life of diving!

    Brian,

Welcome and congrats on your Advanced Open Water. Scuba Sciences on I-17 and Dunlap and another shop on 7th Street downtown has frequent trips to California as well as international trips. Check them out. Most of their trips are all inclusive. Their website scubasciences.com has the details
