Hi there...yes, I live in France right now. Not very close to any water, which is not great, but I was living in Vermont before this, which is even dryer. I have two passions in life and right now I am not doing either. I am actually thinking of packing it in and teaching scuba instead (at least then I can do one of my passions). I'm only a DM, but love being in the water and introducing others to the water so I fully expect to take an instructors course. Not really sure why I am going on like this...I guess I don't believe anyone will read this anyway. In any case, I am looking into, or starting the process of looking into where to go to dive all the time but stay with a girlfriend who needs to work in Europe for at least the next year. Any diving near Strassbourg?

I don't know about any diving in France, but there is great hiking (in season) in the area around Mt. Blanc. Easy rail connections to Chamonix (and several reasonably priced hostels), with more easy connections to Italy and Switzerland. The ride to Chamonix on the narrow gauge railroad through the Alps is an adventure in itself.
Anyway, welcome to ScubaBoard!

I am a Floridian, who is currently studying in Rennes. They tell me the diving in Brittany (where Rennes is located) is quite nice in the Summer. The Med is also supposed to be nice. Neither of these places are close to Strassbourg.
You may want to checkout Nemo 33. www.nemo33.com (thanks to El Orans for the link). It is a 33m deep pool in Brussels, so it is not too far from you.
