I thought diving was about swimming with the fish, not eating them off the reef.

I think they ate them off of a plate. Sure, it was a paper plate, but the fish didn't mind at that point.

I would like t think that the dive community would not cellebrate the removal of fish from the reef.

Guess I was wrong.....

Wrong is relative. You simply don't have a leg to stand on in this argument other than your emotion.
Spearfishing is the least wasteful and most selective method of putting fish on the table in existence.
