I wonder about Bonaire as well. Also all the other Caribbean islands. Going to St. John soon. Looks like I need a couple of bottles of Sawyers permethrin & picaridin. I've also heard about Dengue & Chik in Texas - though not at this level.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...WhlaRVdoCnBWmvA&bvm=bv.80185997,d.cGE&cad=rja - launches a current report (PDF) from the Netherlands National Institute for Public Health. I can't figure out a way to link to it directly but googling: chikungunya on bonaire should return updated results in the future.

That's like 5% of the island population...

It's everywhere in the Caribbean and beyond.. Already got 3 cans of Off for our trip next month.

Glad I was underwater in Bonaire most of the daytime when these mosquitoes tend to bite... and I wear a full 3/2mm wetsuit when I dive the tropics.

Wasn't aware of this but housekeeping did leave my door open while they cleaned and I had several mosquitoes enter my room (which I promptly killed before I went to sleep).

It seems to be ubiquitous ( Geographic Distribution | Chikungunya virus | CDC) :

In US VI and believe the numbers are seriously under reported as numerous co-workers and extended circle of friends have had it. Kept our ER jumping July - Sept. Appears to be on the downslope, but still an occasional case. Not fun from what I've seen and heard. The only upside, if there can be one, is that once infected you appear to be immune (unlike Dengue).

Rather amazing, if true. The supposed first case in Curacao was not until roughly July, 2014. Over diagnosis perhaps? Especially considering that most of the time since the first report consisted of dry season.
