Compared to other canister lights, this one seems very reasonably priced:

Has anyone used Pelican?
I guess that technically this is a canister light. But it is NOT comperable to most of the canister lights mentioned here on this board.

This is only a 1 watt LED light source. This light will not be any where near as bright as a 10 watt HID. The power source for this canister light is 3 conventional batteries, not the rechagable battery packs used in the HID lamps.

This light would be a poor choice for technical diving as either a primary or backup light. As a recreational night dive light this would probably do fine, but in that application why not just get a regular 1 watt LED with no cord between the battery and the light source. I think this light is a solution looking for a problem.

That's a backup light with a goodman handle ... and an expensive one at that.

Probably work nicely in clear water, but not enough power for more turbid conditions ...

WOW???????

For a 1 watt LED that is really expensive!!!!

Most 1 watt LED dive lights are sold for way less than $100.

A 1 watt LED makes a good backup, but there is no need for a canister light burning at 1 watt, 10 watt LED maybe.

For $185 US you would be better off buying a UK Light Cannon 100 (10 Watt HID) and for $50 more a frogman(1 watt LED).

Frank,

Alternately, the UK Lite Cannon is a fairly inexpensive HID light with. It would be quite suitable as a primary light for recreational diving.

Thanks. I've got one of those, but I was hoping for something I could mount on the back of my hand, so I could keep my hands free. Chances are, I won't find myself in a situation where this feature is all that critical, though. I had briefly looked at canister lights, but found them to be prohibitively expensive, so when I saw this one, I was pretty jazzed about it.

Sounds like you wouldn't be happy with that 1-watt. FWIW, I think the cheapest "real" canister light I have seen is this one:
http://www.divers-supply.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=17764
$499, and it includes the battery charger. It is a 10watt HID with non-focusable lighthead.
What ever you do, don't borrow or listen to anyone who has a can light, or you will find yourself convinced that you have to have one ASAP :)

Then I should think the NiteRider Sport Diver would be a better option ...

... it's less expensive and has more power. Ignore the headband ... they build this stuff for commercial divers. It also comes with a soft goodman handle for recreational divers.
