Morning guys.

Saw the new Mini Q40 on UK's web site, and couldn't help myself. It sounded so good I've ordered one from eBestsource, and am getting it sent over here to OZ. Has anyone actually tried one or compared it to the old eLED model? By all accounts it should have a lot more grunt and a tighter beam. I will be interested to see how it compares to the Mini Q40eLED I already use.

actually supposedly to be more of a flood than a spot, in comparison to the old one. mine is in the mail too!

I have one and I love it. While in ScubaToys I compared it
to the original one. It is definitely brighter. I used it as my
primary light for night dives back in January when I was in
Bonaire.

Not quite as bright as my wifes IkeLite PCm, but close.
I like it better than the PCm because it only uses 4 batteries and
the batteries last more than twice as long.
Also, you don't have to worry about the bulb burning out or
getting so hot that it melts the reflector when using it out of
water. (one of the issues with the IkeLite).

I got mine from ScubaToys (It is my LDS....) for $24.95.
(Same price as the original non + version)

When I was in Bonaire which had very clear water,
I started off using a UK 8 D-cell monster that my brother in law
loaned me. It was VERY bright. It was just way more light than
I needed and it was scaring away the creatures.
My wife used her IkeLite PCm and I used my Q40 Eled+
for primary lights.
I've never understood what people are doing with all these
incredibly bright lights. (unless its for taking pictures or videos).

For me, the Q40+ was plenty as a primary light.

I have one, and it makes a great backup light. I personally wouldn't want to use it as a primary on a night dive. I prefer a big light. Or at least bigger than that provides.

As for daytime use, it doesn't, to my eyes, light things up very effectively during the day. You just see a small blueish light spot, about 1-2" across. Might be ok for poking into crevices, however. I haven't used it for that yet, because I've only had it for about 4 dives thus far.
