Does anyone have any information on liveaboards to Malpelo from Columbia? I understand from a couple of companies that formerly ran trips from Costa Rica/Panama that the Colombian authorities are insisting on all boats leaving from Colombia but cannot find any info on the internet, Any help greatly appreciated

MALPELO PACIFIC

Click "Activities". The first liveaboard is the Inula which is based in Panama but the other two are based in Colombia. I don't know much beyond what you can read on the website but if you search and/or ask questions on the South American forum you may find more information.

We went to Malpelo two yrs ago with the Undersea Hunter. We had a great time but it is an "all or nothing" destination. We saw Galapagos, white tips and some small schools of hammerheads, no massive schools of silkies. The trip after us saw nothing, just eels. I would be hesitant to book a trip Just to Malpelo, very humble personal opinion. Trip report, photos, MultiMedia show at our site.

Your best bet for going to Malpelo is now out of Panama on the Yemaya Liveaboard. It is actually closer to Malpelo than the boats going out of Columbia and leaves out of Coiba National Park which is in itself a up and coming dive destination.
The Yemaya is a very comfortable LOB and has a great crew with one of the best chefs we have ever had.
Now is a great time to go as we are now entering El Nina and a recent report from the boat had multiple Whale Sharks and hundreds of Hammerheads on one trip.
We are a booking agent here in Florida for the boat and help assist you with a trip. There are a few spaces left this year for Sept. and December and then Jan. and March 2011 but they will go fast as this is one of the few boats you can now take to Malpelo.
You can e-mail us at scubaduo@scubaduoadventures.com for more information, prices and availability.
