I am looking into liveaboards for Palau. I may have narrowed it down between the Ocean Hunter III and the Aggressor. Does anyone have any recommendations for either of these, or can suggest an alternative. I have been on the Fiji Aggressor and found the boat and crew fantastic but I have done better diving from land based operations in Fiji for a lot less money. So I am hesitant about another Aggressor booking. It is my first Palau trip and I want to get as much diving as possible so thought liveaboard. Please offer your recommendations.
I've not been on an Aggressor boat, but I was on the Ocean Hunter I. It was a fantastic trip, and a liveaboard in Palau is great because most of the dive sites are some distance south of Koror and in a liveaboard you avoid the problem of having three day boats show up to the same popular spot at around the same time. It may be that the Ocean Hunter boats attract a bit more of an international (versus US-centered) clientele, which to me is fun. Certainly the OH I was a great boat with a great crew, and the diving was amazing!
Did the Aggressor last Fall. From what we saw, if you want lots of diving, liveaboard is the way to go. Looks like a long boat ride from Koror to many of the popular/well known/best dive sites. Other popular & great dive sites not even accessible from Koror (i.e. Peleliu). On the Aggressor, we had 4 dives on Mon thru Fri, plus optional nite dives on Tu, We & Thur , and on Sat Jellyfish lake & Chandelier Cave—i.e. Lots of diving. Don’t think you could get that much from land based. They did a very good job of matching the dive sites to the currents so only one dive had a ripper going—again not sure they can do that well from land.
