    I just put 2 together as well. Works just fine. The inner tube covers the second screw mechanism anyway so nobody will know but you.

    I went with the "vibration resistant" clamps from McMaster. Probably over-kill, but they're *very* sturdy and I feel comfortable "cranking" them down to keep the stage straps in place.
