Got tired of boats and jet skis not seeing our flag. Put one together with pvc and a pull toy. We put 9" carabiners on the float handles to hang fins, masks, lights, etc on.
I am not sure they are drunk but some people don't know what it means. Once during some checkout dives I saw someone in a canoe come and pulled the flag out of the water because they didn't know what it was. Luckily the flag was not being held by the diver.
Plus they do get abused by divers from time to time. What is proper edicate when you see a dive flag on a boat... which is on full plane doing 35 mph. Does that mean the diver is being trolled?
Granted I have made this mistake also, but have since created a system that prevents this from happeneing now.

Looks cool, but likely not legal in MA where the flag must extend a minimum of 3 feet above the water.
Last weekend we dove at Table Rock Lake dam, 40 mph wind gusts. We only have about 60' of rope on it, so I tow it till we run out then tie it off. I towed it till I got tired of being drug through the water then I tied it to a tree stump. No ballast in it as of yet. The wind blew so hard it broke the cable the marker bouts for the dam are on.
