Need Help - Mounting Plastic Leg Sheath on Waist Belt
I was given a present from a dear family member of an Atomic Aquatics Ti6 Titanium Dive Knife. Great knife with sentimental value to me.
I would like to place the knife on my left side of the waist belt, but the hard molded plastic sheath is designed for leg attachment (leg placement is not a good fit for me, but the waist belt is). Does any one have any suggestions for a secure way to attached it to my waist belt?
I have thought of lacing it to the belt through the top leg strap slots. I have also thought of buying some belt material and going to an upolster and having them make one for me that I can loop onto the belt and "some how" drop the knife and sheath inside.

Searcaigh,
Not really. I am using the Dive Rite Trans Harness and on the shoulder shaps they put quick release buckles...
I think I like DevonDiver's idea of getting a commercial sheath when I get back to the State in April/May is time. Most of my home-made projects really don't improve what is already out there.
I am doing a few dives in Fujairah in a week and maybe some here in Kuwait if my BSAC club gets their trailer built before I leave. So I have a Stainless Steel folding knife I put in a pocket that is accessible, thus can wait until I can get to a good shop and get a sheath.
But do you have any suggestions anyways? I am all ears and open?

I will be in a couple of dive shops this week, will see what is available, diving on Wednesday.
24/25 am in the desert, but free on the 26th if you are still around. Which org do you plan to dive with?

Horizontal on Chest Strap
Rich,
I actually put on my kit and looked at different placements. I did noticed that I could mount the knife horizontally on the chest strap and it would not interfer with the snap, adjustment s and I can reach it quickly with both hands. I will try it with zip ties and test it out next weeks.

Searcaigh,
My UAE trip is from the 19th - 23rd and I plan to be diving on the 20-22nd. I was trying to get my company to send me to a hotel in Fujairah, and then dive with Divers Down & Karin. But they rather spend more money on a hotel in Dubai, which will cost me more money to get to Fujairah and back to Dubai daily...but what the hay, I am getting paid to go diving. Now I have to try and find some sort of transportation to Fujairah and back to Dubai. Al Boom runs a shuttle bus and I have dove with them the last two trips in Dec and Jan, but I really want to dive with Divers Down this trip. Once I get my final hotel confirmation, most likely tomorrow, I will contact Karin and see what we can work out.
I hear she makes a mean cup of tea.
I still need to catch up with you too; even if it is just a phone chat.
It is pretty easy to make a DIY sheath. You can use an old weightbelt. Fold it over on itself for a few layers until it covers the knife and also has a loop for the waist strap. Now when you got the configuration figured, tape it with duct tape. Then crush it hard at each fold with a vice. Now it is in the shape you want. remove tape. Next, use a hot poker to burn holes through several locations close to the edge. Use aircraft safety wire through the holes, twist and tie up the sheath. this serves the safe function as sewing. Then for the finsihing touch, cover the lower section with gray duct tape..
